The Mouth of the Fal

Falmouth, named so because it is the mouth of the River Fal, sits in Cornwall, England. Its natural harbor remains one of the world’s deepest, perfect for sea trade and tourism. Interesting note: Falmouth, Jamaica, was named after the Cornwall town because the Jamaican governor responsible for its establishment was born there.
Just outside the port, one shop-lined street sells just about anything and everything a tourist would want to purchase. That is, if they want the same souvenirs as most tourists. That stated, I did pop into some interesting shops and spotted a few interesting things.

Shark Mural

Artist Marc Craig created The Ark of Extinction project to raise awareness for endangered animals. His basking shark mural in Falmouth works as intended. I mean, it got me to look up information about the vulnerable shark population. Several others stopped to consider the mural and I noticed a number of them opening their phones to look up more information.
Check out this video showing how the artist creates fine-detail doodles of animals.
Johnny Guitar

Joan Crawford starred in the 1954 western, Johnny Guitar. I have not watched the movie, but guitarist John 5 sampled audio from the film for his song “Welcome To Violence”.
Pie Hard

Apparently, Pie Hard is not a Christmas festival. It’s the Christmas festival! Visit Falmouth in December for pie, beer and Christmas. Yippe-pie-yay!
The Art Remains Outside The Gallery

Since 1989, Beside The Wave Gallery has sold contemporary art. The four ladies who operate the gallery picked a perfect spot. While the art caught my attention, the view out the gallery’s back window kept it.
Take a peek at their Instagram profile for pics of their art and events.
