Victoria Falls

Called Mosi-oa-Tunya, or the “The Smoke That Thunders”, in Lozi. Called Shungu Namutitima, or “Boiling Water”, in Tonga. When David Livingstone viewed it in 1855, he named it Victoria Falls, in honor of Queen Victoria. Livingstone did note in his writings that locals also referred to the falls as Chongwe, or “The Place of the Rainbow”, due to its constant mist.

Right on the Zambia-Zimbabwe border, this waterfall of the Zambezi river, is the world’s largest sheet of falling water, exceeding one mile. Check out this link for a panorama view of the falls.

Devil’s Pool

An interesting feature of the falls exists on the Zambian side. A natural infinity pool sits on the lip. Adventurous swimmers can approach the edge with relative safety, making for fun photo ops and spectacular views.

Gorges

Gorgeous gorges comprise the falls system, six principal ones in total.

Group Selfies

Our group took two selfies in Victoria Falls.

Here, our group experienced the falls, with a combination of mist and dizzle soaking us.

Group at Victoria Falls

All good things come to an end. At the airport, we disbanded to catch flights home or onward to other adventures, but not before taking one last group photo.

Goodbye to Victoria Falls
